Good News for Port Adriano, Boat Owners & Mallorca
Since its inauguration in 1992, Port Adriano, a newly created marina, has made a considerable difference to the well being of the area known as El Toro, on Mallorca's south west coast approximately 20 minutes west of Palma. Providing a boost to this already quality tourism product, the latest Port Adriano Enlargement Project has been given the go ahead. This means the marina will be extended to raise the existing mooring capacity from 404 to 486 and a substantial 470 additional car parkings. The extra 82 moorings will be from 25 metres to 60 metres - this will provide serious mooring facilities for larger craft. The present maximum berth is 40 metres. There will be new office and retail space, a ramp to launch and beach small boats, a sailing school and the stabilisation of cliff face adjacent to the marina. The nearby manmade sandy beach will be extended seaward to create more space. Already a number of high quality brand goods retailers have agreed to open outlets in the extended office and retail areas.
It is envisaged the port extension will create around over 100 new job
opportunities on an all year round basis. These jobs will include
commercial companies in the marine business, the service industry,
retail and boat repair and maintenance, especially valuable during the
low season.
The new project will not utilise even a metre of additional coastline, the extra moorings will be located inside an extra sea wall constructed outside the existing one. The creation of the ramp into the sea, to launch small boats, will allow the residents of the area to enjoy the facility, which has been their long term demand.
The internationally famous designer Philippe Starck has been engaged to design the port extension, his minimalistic designs and the unique combination of aesthetics and functionality in his creations can be seen in New York, Miami, San Francisco, Tokyo, London & Milan, to name a few.
Completion of the project is scheduled for 2009.
