Orient, Mallorca
Orient is a small village of approximately 50 homes so beautifully positioned it could easily be an imaginary creation of a landscape artist of the French impressionist school. The houses of the village cling to a small hill with a cute little church occupying its crest, this hill dwarfed by the mountains on all sides, broken only by the road finding its way through steep valleys. The light, the shadows and effects from both the morning and late afternoon sun radiating through the valley haze is remarkable and the changing colours of the surrounding mountains are unreal. In the village there are 3 good restaurants, on the apex of the village and a few metres from the church is a delightful and characterful restaurant called “ Mandala”, run by a Swiss couple from Geneva. There are also small country hotels close-by. A very quiet and top quality retreat being the hotel “La Hermitage”.
At the foot of the village, in the immediate valley, there is an abundance of orchards, both apple and orange. Orient is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers, where the songs of the thrush are heard to echo through the valley, along with the happy twitters of small birds busily hunting insects in the orchards, magically accompanied by the soft sound of bells sounding the every movement of grazing sheep. The small village of Orient is located between Alarò and Bunyola.
