This unspoilt and small fishing village, facing west towards beautiful sunsets, has an important place in history being the point at which King Jaume’s fleet came ashore in the 13th century to begin their conquest of the Moors.
San Telmo, 10 minutes west of Puerto Andratx and approximately 30 minutes from Palma, is sheltered from westerly gales by the small islet of Pantaleu a few hundred metres off shore and the larger island and nature reserve of Sa Dragonera. For everyone the visual delights of this pleasantly simple village are the fishermen's houses built directly at the sea's edge and the beautifully clear and inviting waters of the Mediterreanean. 
San Telmo or Sant Elm in Mallorquin, is located at the far westerly corner of the island, in fact at the very end of the road. Today the livelihood of the villagers is based on the harvest from the sea and the revenue generated from tourism, restaurants and from the limited hotel and apartment accommodation. The village of San Telmo is famous for its fish & paella restaurants. On summer weekends yachts from around the southwest anchor just off shore to allow owners and passengers to enjoy a selection from these excellent outdoor restaurants. Small fishing and pleasure boats anchor in the sanctuary of the islet of Pantaleu whilst others are pulled-up slipways to wait for their early evening or night time fishing expeditions. Here you will walk between fishermen putting to sea their with baited 'long lines' and lobster pots. As  evening darkens and restaurant lights begin to shimmer across the sea, oil lamps are lit in readiness to attract the popular squid.
During summer days gulls gather on the cliffs to await the return of the fishermen and 500 metres out to sea creatures, great and small, roam wild and free on the island of La Dragonera, including the Dragonera lizards, a unique species to the island. Boat trips are available to explore the island from either the village itself or from Puerto Andratx and Santa Ponsa.
In addition to the restaurants of San Telmo this charming seaside village has a fine sandy beach with a quaint children´s play ground area in the sand, tiny coves and easy going cafés. Waterfront houses rarely come on to the market and those owning such gems, whether in need of modernisation or not, must accept the gaze of envy from visitors enjoying the romantic walks and seaside paths. San Telmo is the location and start of excellent diving in the clear waters of the area.

Both, during winter and summer months, San Telmo is a perfect base for walkers. Nestled at the southern end of the Tramuntana Mountain range, the region boasts some of the best nature trails and viewing points in Mallorca.  A day out can start on your doorstep with an hour’s walk up through La Trapa National Park and on to the former Trappist monastery, passing many different kinds of orchids and other beautiful flora unique to this area. The remains of the monastery and the superb examples of dry stone walling are worth a visit - but the highlight is certainly the view across the off-shore from the cliff tops.

San Telmo is a picturesque location that buzzes in summer with local villagers and individual visitors alike. During late evenings there are sunsets that do not escape a place in your memory of Mallorca.
