Sencelles, Mallorca
The village of Sencelles has a resident population of approximately 2.300 people including several foreigners enjoying the countryside environment and preserved charm and harmony of a quiet and traditional Mallorcan lifestyle. The general landscape is flat with 3 “torrentes” (river beds) criss-crossing the countryside.
The area was in former times an Arab farmland and still its main industry is from the land, including almond and fig trees but most importantly the vineyards - representing the main activity of the area. From 1781 to 1855 Sencelles was home to Francinaina Cirer who founded the Ca ses Monges, home of the Sisters of Charity, an important heritage. An 18th century church of Sant Pere stands as the village's main feature. Sencelles is not more than 30 minutes from Palma and is located between Santa Maria and Sineu and close-by are the small villages of Santa Eugenia and Costitx. The nearest country hotel to the village is about 2 km away, called Hotel Son Xotano, the present charming hotel was earlier a 16th century farm. Now it provides accommodation in 8 double rooms and 8 suites, has 150,000 m2 of gardens and a swimming pool.
