The historical origins of this area, date back to the Moorish period, 1100 years ago. Mayurqa Madina (City of Majorca ) was the Roman city built on leveraging the mouth of the stream of Sa Riera, which passed along the Rambla, the Unio Street and Paseo del Born. The area where the town hall and the cathedral is located was the Upper Town, while the neighbourhood street was Cavalleria Can Lower Town and, unlike in Roman times, already had their own houses of worship, mosques. At the corner of what is now Conception Street, Can Cavalleria, in the 10th century the mosque Dabdolmelé whose source was intended for the ablutions of the faithful still preserved in Conception Street was, just as recalled by a plaque placed by the city on its restoration. This source has historically fed ditches and pipes descended on Conception Street.

Already in the 11th century a walled extension was performed, leaving the bed of the stream,and the mosque within the walls. In the following centuries, until in 1229 the Christian King Jaume I conquered Mallorca, the city enjoyed great independence and splendour, though,precisely because it was coveted in the 12th century it suffered a major attack of Pisans and Catalans. Curiously, after enlargement Madina Mayurqa measuring 110 hectares comparedto 25 in Barcelona and was one of the largest in Spain.

It was not until the Conquest when the street had its first major transformation. Also be recalled that in 1229 Frederick II, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and grandson of Frederick Barbarossa, the VI Crusade conquered Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth. It was therefore time when the Christian kingdoms fighting Islam.
