Fishing, a new tourist attraction

It now appears that rod fishing is about to become a new tourist attraction for Mallorca. A proposed new law, a pilot scheme already operating in the neighboring island of Menorca, means the Balearic's professional fishermen, there are 671 of them, could take paying guests on angling trips. That's a great idea. Rod fishing from both the rocks around Mallorca and from boats is a popular pastime in the Balearic islands. Over 85,000 registered anglers are believed to catch 1,500 tons of fish a year. How the figure is calculated I really can't think - no one has ever asked me to report my catch from my summer home on the rocks in San Telmo. Ah, perhaps I should apply for a fishing license and get registered before the start of my summer season. Certainly, I know very well the prospect of catching fish from a boat off-shore sensationally improves the likelihood of having fish for dinner.
